Software development for the design of graphene-based materials (e.g., nano-porous graphene sponges or functionalized multilayers).
Software development for modeling and analysis of bio-materials (e.g., bio-functionalized nano-particles, structured bio-polymers).

DESCRIPTION OF RELATED RESEARCH
1) Research activity included in the graphene flagship project, which deals with the design of graphene-based nano-porous materials for super-capacitors and batteries. The research aims to optimize structural properties (porosity, density, accessible surface area) in order to enhance the capacity and density of energy stored in the device.
2) Development of bio-materials or bio-functionalized materials for medical or pharmaceutical purposes. Current projects aim to optimize the functionalization of metal nanoparticles as drug carriers or for noninvasive diagnostic techniques; to study and design multi-stable biopolymers for use as therapeutic actuators. Finally, the group is involved in a more basic activity to develop simplified models for biopolymers for use in large-scale simulations of intracellular dynamics.
